NEUR instructor Amanda Chicoli has been awarded an exciting grant by the Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland to develop a new course bridging the gap between computational methods and neuroscience research. Students will gain hands-on experience with neural networks, data visualization, and statistical analysis specifically tailored to neuroscience data. According to Chicoli, "our goal with the course is to provide students with both the practical as well as the critical thinking skills to apply machine learning methods to challenges in neuroscience." While an introductory course, students will have enough practical experience to use these tools in their internships, research labs, or other classes across campus. UMD is a leader in the artificial intelligence field, and, by equipping our psychology and neuroscience students with these skills, we are supporting the next generation of leaders who will help address complex challenges in understanding brain function and neurological disorders.
